Because airline child policies change — and parents shouldn’t have to hunt for answers.

Short answer: Southwest does not provide inflight bassinets and you cannot install an aircraft-mounted bassinet on their planes.

You may bring a portable travel bassinet as carry-on or checked baggage if it fits Southwest’s baggage rules, but it generally cannot be used as a secured infant restraint during flight.
During the flight, infants must either be held as a lap child or be secured in an FAA‑approved child restraint (CRS/car seat) in a purchased seat. If you want the child in their own seat, bring an FAA‑approved car seat and follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Southwest uses open seating; if you need extra space (bulkhead row), consider boarding early (EarlyBird or an early boarding position) to increase your chance of getting that seat.
Always tell Southwest in advance if you plan to bring bulky child gear and check with the airline before travel for any updates or specific size allowances.
