Bringing a bottle warmer on American Airlines

You can bring a bottle warmer on American Airlines. Pack it in your carry-on if you’ll need it during the journey.

  • Non-battery (plug-in) warmers: Generally allowed in carry-on and checked baggage. Carry-on is recommended for easy access.
  • Battery-powered warmers: Subject to lithium battery rules — installable batteries should be in carry-on; spare lithium-ion batteries must be carried in the cabin with terminals protected. Batteries over 100 Wh need airline approval; over 160 Wh are not allowed.
  • Chemical/instant heat packs: Rules vary. Check with American Airlines or airport security if your warmer uses chemical heating.
  • Feeding items: Breast milk, formula, and baby food are allowed in quantities over 3.4 oz and will be screened separately — you can bring these alongside the warmer.
  • Onboard warming: Flight attendants can usually provide hot water to warm bottles — ask politely if you prefer not to use an electric warmer on board.

Tip: To avoid surprises, confirm specifics with American Airlines before travel and carry the warmer in your carry-on when it has batteries.
