Can you bring a car seat on a plane with Japan Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing a car seat on Japan Airlines

Yes — you can bring a car seat (child restraint system) on Japan Airlines. To use it on board the child must occupy a purchased seat and the car seat must be approved for aircraft use.

  • Certification: The car seat should have a label stating it is certified for use on aircraft or meets applicable safety standards.
  • Ticket requirement: If your baby will sit in the car seat, you must buy a seat for the child (infant-on-lap rules do not allow using a car seat).
  • Installation: Car seat must be secured with the airplane seat belt. Car seats are not permitted in exit rows.
  • Gate check / baggage: JAL commonly allows car seats to be gate-checked or checked as baggage, but allowances can vary—confirm with the airline for free carriage and size rules.
  • Practical tips: Measure your car seat against the aircraft seat width, bring the car seat manual and installation instructions, arrive early for help, and contact JAL in advance if you’re unsure.
