Can you bring baby formula powder on a plane with Lufthansa when traveling with a baby?

Bringing baby formula (powder) on a Lufthansa flight

Yes — powdered infant formula is allowed in carry-on when travelling with a baby. You should declare it at security and be prepared for additional screening. Rules to expect:

  • Powdered formula can be carried in reasonable amounts for the journey; keep it in original or clearly labeled containers when possible.
  • At security you may need to present the powder separately for inspection and it may be tested or opened.
  • For flights to/from the United States, powders larger than 350 mL (about 12 oz) may require extra screening; if they cannot be cleared, you may be asked to place them in checked baggage.
  • Prepared formula, breast milk, and baby food in liquid form are also allowed in quantities over 100 mL but must be declared and screened separately.
  • Bring extra supplies, sterile bottles, and any documentation you find helpful (e.g., baby’s age) and ask cabin crew for hot water if you need to prepare a feed onboard.
