Can you bring breast milk on a plane with Alaska Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Breast milk on Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines follows standard U.S. airport rules. You may bring expressed breast milk in carry-on baggage and it is exempt from the 3.4 oz (100 ml) liquid limit. You should declare the milk at security screening so it can be inspected.

  • Screening: Tell the TSA officer that you have breast milk; containers will be screened separately (X‑ray or additional inspection). Containers may be opened for inspection; chemical testing may be used if needed.
  • Quantity: There is no strict volume limit for breast milk for traveling with an infant, but bring a reasonable amount for the flight and potential delays.
  • Cold storage: Ice packs, gel packs and frozen milk are allowed to keep milk cold. Partially melted ice packs are still permitted.
  • Packing: Carry breast milk in your carry-on rather than checked luggage. Use sealed bottles or storage bags and consider labeling them with date/contents.
  • Onboard: Flight attendants can help with warming/handling requests but are not required to store milk for you; bring a small cooler if needed.
  • International travel: Check rules at your destination and any connecting airports, as regulations vary by country.
