# Buffalo Niagara Airport (BUF) with Kids: What Families Will Find

**Short answer:** Buffalo Niagara International has three free Fisher-Price play areas past security (Gate 2, Gate 9 and Gates 19/21) and a private lactation room on the East concourse across from Gate 14. Its official site lists no family restroom, sensory room, family security lane or stroller rental. One upper-level checkpoint serves every gate.

**Velivolo family score:** 5.8/10 (Decent)

BUF is a compact one-terminal airport with a single upper-level checkpoint, which keeps things simple with kids. Past security there are three free Fisher-Price play areas with giant climbable toys (Gate 2, Gate 9 and Gates 19/21) and a private lactation room on the East concourse across from Gate 14. The official site still lists no family restroom, sensory room or stroller rental. Food is a strength: Anchor Bar wings, Bocce Club Pizza, BurgerFi and Tim Hortons.

## Security with children

- **Family lane:** Buffalo Niagara has a single security checkpoint on the upper level and publishes no family lane; it refers travellers to TSA's website for current protocols. To join the Sunflower Hidden Disabilities programme, contact customer service in the terminal when you arrive. For screening help, contact TSA Cares at least 72 hours before travel at (855) 787-2227.
- **Strollers and car seats:** Strollers, baby carriers and car seats go through the X-ray, and anything too large is inspected by hand. Take your child out and carry them through the walk-through metal detector.
- **Formula, milk and baby food:** Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag.
- **Shoes:** Children 12 and under can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on during screening.
- **PreCheck:** Children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane with an enrolled parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 on the same reservation can too, if the PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.

## Your rights

- **Lactation:** As a medium hub, Buffalo Niagara falls under the FAM Act's requirement for a non-restroom lactation space past security. BUF's own site doesn't list one, so ask customer service where it is.
- **Changing tables:** BUF doesn't publish where its baby changing tables are.
- **Liquids:** TSA's national rule applies at Buffalo Niagara: formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Declare them at the start of screening.
- **Boarding:** Family boarding is set by your airline, not by Buffalo Niagara. Check your carrier before you fly.
- **If it is missing:** Ask at the information desk on the lower level across from baggage claim, or contact BUF customer service. For screening help, contact TSA Cares at least 72 hours before travel at (855) 787-2227.
