# John Glenn Columbus Airport (CMH) with Kids: Every Family Facility, Mapped

**Short answer:** John Glenn Columbus has private nursing rooms in each of its three concourses and in baggage claim, family restrooms throughout the terminal, and a universal changing table staff will bring to a family restroom on request. CMH lists no children's play area, sensory room, family security lane or stroller rental.

**Velivolo family score:** 5/10 (Fair)

CMH covers the feeding and changing basics without fuss: a private nursing room in Concourses A, B and C plus one in baggage claim, and family restrooms throughout the terminal. Its standout is the universal changing table, which staff will deliver to a family restroom before security or in any concourse if you call 614.239.4029. For kids with hidden disabilities, CMH will mail a free Journey Care Kit with a Sunflower lanyard and social story. There's no play area or sensory room listed.

## Security with children

- **Family lane:** CMH publishes no family security lane. Each concourse has its own TSA checkpoint, open 4am to 8:30pm; if flights are delayed, TSA stays open no later than 10pm. CMH recommends arriving 90 minutes before a domestic flight. For extra help, contact TSA Cares 72 hours ahead, and order a free Journey Care Kit from CMH at least 45 days before you fly.
- **Strollers and car seats:** Strollers, baby carriers and car seats go through the X-ray, and anything too large is inspected by hand. Take your child out and carry them through the walk-through metal detector.
- **Formula, milk and baby food:** Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag.
- **Shoes:** Children 12 and under can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on during screening.
- **PreCheck:** Children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane with an enrolled parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 on the same reservation can too, if the PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.

## Getting between terminals

John Glenn has one terminal with three concourses, A, B and C, each behind its own TSA checkpoint. Information centres staffed by Airport Ambassadors are on the ticketing and baggage claim levels. Shuttle buses to parking are lift-equipped, and SmarteCarte carts are available in the garage, at the curb and in baggage claim.

## Your rights

- **Lactation:** As a medium hub, CMH falls under the FAM Act's requirement for a non-restroom lactation space past security. It has a private nursing room in each concourse.
- **Changing tables:** CMH goes beyond the minimum with a universal changing table, sized for older children and adults, delivered on request to a family restroom.
- **Liquids:** TSA's national rule applies at John Glenn Columbus: formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Declare them at the start of screening.
- **Boarding:** Family boarding is set by your airline, not by John Glenn Columbus. Check your carrier before you fly.
- **If it is missing:** Ask an Airport Ambassador at the information centres on the ticketing or baggage claim level. For screening help, call TSA Cares at 855.787.2227 at least 72 hours ahead.

## FAQ

### Does John Glenn Columbus have a kids' play area?

CMH doesn't list one. Its full amenities directory covers restaurants, shops, nursing rooms, the meditation room and pet relief, but no children's play area. The airport doesn't state that none exists. Kids do tend to love the PeppTron robot pizza machine before security and the Jeni's ice cream vending machines in every concourse.

### Where are the nursing rooms at CMH?

CMH has private nursing rooms in each of Concourses A, B and C, and another in baggage claim before security. The airport doesn't publish gate positions, hours or a feature list, so ask an Airport Ambassador or look for signage once you're through your checkpoint.

### Does CMH have a universal changing table?

Yes. CMH has a universal changing table that staff will deploy to a family restroom before security or in any concourse. Call 614.239.4029 to request it; signs in the family restrooms explain how and link to instructions. It's sized for older children and adults, which helps if your child has outgrown a standard fold-down table.

### Does CMH have a sensory room?

CMH's site doesn't list one. Instead it offers the Journey Care Kit for travellers with visible and hidden disabilities, with Sunflower lanyards and a social story called 'Journey Care Kit: Ready to take off!' Email the airport at least 45 days before your flight with your mailing address to have one sent. Paw Force One therapy dogs also visit the terminal.

### Does CMH have a family security lane?

CMH doesn't publish one. Each concourse has its own TSA checkpoint, open 4am to 8:30pm, and TSA stays open no later than 10pm if flights run late. Standard TSA family rules apply: children 12 and under keep their shoes on, strollers go through the X-ray, and formula and breast milk are allowed over 3.4 oz.

### Which concourse does my airline use at CMH?

Southwest uses Concourse A. American and United use Concourse B. Air Canada, Alaska, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Lufthansa and Sun Country use Concourse C. If you're on Allegiant, you'll fly from Rickenbacker (LCK) instead.

### Can I rent a stroller at CMH?

CMH doesn't mention stroller rental. SmarteCarte luggage carts cost $6 in the garage, at the curb and in baggage claim, with 25 cents back when you return one. Bring your own stroller and gate-check it under your airline's rules.

### What are the rules for formula and breast milk at CMH security?

TSA's national rules apply. Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed in your carry-on above the 3.4 oz (100 ml) limit and don't need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag. You can carry your child through the walk-through metal detector.
