## Security with children

- **Family lane:** The Terminal B checkpoint has a designated TSA Family Lane for families with young children: look for the Family Lane sign. Each terminal has its own checkpoint, and any gate can be reached from any of them, so families can choose Terminal B for the Family Lane. John Wayne Airport's free Helping Hands programme (6am to 11pm daily, book 72 hours ahead) gives personalised help through check-in, security and boarding for travellers with hidden disabilities like autism, and can arrange a pre-trip tour.
- **Strollers and car seats:** Strollers, baby carriers and car seats go through the X-ray, and anything too large is inspected by hand. Take your child out and carry them through the walk-through metal detector.
- **Formula, milk and baby food:** Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag.
- **Shoes:** Children 12 and under can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on during screening.
- **PreCheck:** Children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane with an enrolled parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 on the same reservation can too, if the PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.

Ticket counters are on the upper Departure level and baggage claim on the lower Arrival level; all terminal parking is reached from the Departure level. Elevators are by the escalators near each terminal exit, in every parking structure and at Gate 1A.

## FAQ

### Does John Wayne Airport have a kids' play area?

Yes. The Children's Play Area is past security near Gate 11 in Terminal B, right next to the Nursing Mother's Lounge. It's designed around the Orange County coast, with soft-play pieces shaped like a lifeguard tower, a sea lion, a sandcastle and a surfboard. Because all three terminals connect after security, you can walk there from any gate. SNA doesn't publish hours or an age range.

### Does John Wayne Airport have a family security lane?

Yes. The TSA checkpoint in Terminal B has a designated Family Lane, set up to help families with young children through screening with strollers, car seats, formula and snacks. Look for the Family Lane sign. Since any gate can be reached from any checkpoint at SNA, you can use the Terminal B checkpoint even if your flight leaves from Terminal A or C.

### Where can I breastfeed or pump at John Wayne Airport?

SNA has a Nursing Mother's Lounge past security in Terminal B between Gates 11 and 12. It's a private room with comfortable seating, a sink, a changing table and adjustable lighting. Before security, there's a free Mamava pod in the Terminal C baggage claim area with seating, a counter, an outlet and a USB port, unlocked through the Mamava app.

### Does SNA have family restrooms?

Yes. The newly renovated Terminal B Family Restroom sits near the Nursing Mother's Lounge and Children's Play Area. It has a universal changing table that adjusts from baby to adult size, which is helpful for older children with disabilities. The Nursing Mother's Lounge also has its own changing table.

### Does John Wayne Airport have a sensory room?

SNA's website doesn't list one. Instead, it runs the free Helping Hands programme for travellers with autism and other hidden disabilities, available 6am to 11pm daily. Staff guide you through check-in, security and boarding, can offer a yellow bracelet so airport workers know to give extra support, and can arrange a pre-trip tour. Submit the request at least 72 hours ahead online or at (949) 852-4000.

### Can I walk between terminals at John Wayne Airport?

Yes. SNA says any gate can be accessed from any security checkpoint, so Terminals A, B and C are connected after security. That means families flying from any terminal can use the Terminal B Family Lane and walk to the play area and nursing lounge near Gates 11 and 12.

### Can I rent a stroller at John Wayne Airport?

SNA doesn't say. Stroller rental isn't mentioned on its family or services pages, and the airport doesn't state that none exists, so bring your own and gate-check it under your airline's rules.

### How early should I arrive at John Wayne Airport with kids?

SNA recommends arriving 1.5 to 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one. With children, aim for the earlier end so you have time for the Family Lane and a stop at the play area. Southwest offers curbside check-in at the main entrance to Terminal C.

### What are the rules for formula and breast milk at SNA security?

TSA's national rules apply. Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed in your carry-on above the 3.4 oz (100 ml) limit and don't need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag. Children 12 and under can keep their shoes on, and you can carry your child through the metal detector.
