## Security with children

- **Family lane:** Changi documents a priority lane for families, but it is at IMMIGRATION, not at security screening. Its CARE@Changi pages state: 'Special Assistance Lanes are available for passengers travelling with young children, assisting a companion, or using mobility aids such as wheelchairs. These lanes are wider and designed for greater ease and comfort. Up to four travellers may clear immigration together through these lanes.' The same pages describe security screening separately and list no family or priority security lane. Changi also states explicitly that the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower and LTA 'May I Have a Seat Please' lanyards 'do not offer any escort service, priority access or exemption from airport procedures' — they only signal to staff that you may need more time or help. The widely repeated claim of family security lanes at Changi traces back to a third-party page (treknests.com) that now returns 404 and is not used here.
- **Strollers and car seats:** Changi publishes no stroller screening rule — nothing on its Security & Baggage Restrictions page or its CARE@Changi pages says whether a stroller must be folded or emptied at the checkpoint. The only comparable statement is for mobility aids: passengers may enter the metal detector with personal mobility aids, and their items are scanned separately.
- **Formula, milk and baby food:** Changi publishes this directly, and the rule turns on whether the baby is with you. Its 'Travelling with Children' page states: 'If your baby is travelling with you, you may bring expressed breast milk onboard the aircraft. If your baby is not travelling with you, please store the milk in containers not exceeding 100ml. The containers must fit comfortably in a 1-litre resealable plastic bag. Additional checks may be conducted at Security Screening, prior to boarding the aircraft.' Its liquids page repeats the exemption: 'Exemptions can be made for baby food & breast milk, provided your infant is travelling with you.' Separately, powder-like substances over 350 g in a single container are barred from hand baggage on US-bound and US-airline flights — but Changi lists 'Baby formula, if you are travelling with an infant' as an explicit exception to that powder rule.
- **Shoes:** Changi publishes no shoe-removal rule and no age threshold for it at the security checkpoint. (Footwear rules it does publish are for attractions, not security: The Slide@T3 bans heels, sandals and clogs including Crocs and requires covered footwear, and the T4 Chandelier requires shoes at all times.)

## Getting between terminals

Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are linked by a complimentary Skytrain in both the public and transit areas, operating 05:00–02:00. Changi puts T1–T2–T3 transfers at five to 10 minutes by Skytrain or on foot. Between 02:00 and 05:00 the Skytrain does not run and Changi's own answer to 'What if I miss the last Skytrain at 2:00 AM?' is to walk: inter-terminal travellators in the transit areas, link bridges in the public areas (the Mezzanine Level bridge between T2 and T3, and the Jewel Level 3 bridge between T1 and T2/T3), routes it says are available 24/7. There is no overnight replacement bus between T1, T2 and T3. Terminal 4 is a separate building on neither the Skytrain nor a walking route from transit: complimentary shuttle buses serve it in both areas. Public shuttles run 06:00–00:00 every 7–9 minutes from T1/Jewel and every 5 minutes from T2/MRT, taking about 10 minutes, then switch to a 19-minute loop service (T2/MRT – T3/MRT – T1/Jewel – T4) from 00:00 to 06:00. Transit shuttles run all day at approximately 8-minute intervals between the T1, T2 and T3 arrival immigration halls and the T4 Transfer Lounge, taking 12 minutes to T2 or T3 and 19 minutes to T1. Walking to Jewel takes 5–10 minutes from T2 (Level 3 link bridge near the MRT station) or from the T3 Departure Halls near Crowne Plaza, and Jewel's North entrance opens straight off the T1 Arrival Hall on Level 1.

## Layover plans

### 1–2 hours (pure transit) — Don't plan on Jewel — everything there needs immigration

1. Confirm your connecting terminal — T1, T2 and T3 share a free Skytrain in the transit area from 05:00 to 02:00, so you don't need to clear immigration to move between them.
2. If your gate is in T4, budget for the transit shuttle bus (roughly 12–19 minutes) and confirm your itinerary is through-checked.
3. Use the nearest transit play area or Baby Care Room in your terminal — Changi has both past security in T1, T2, T3 and T4.
4. Skip Jewel: its slides, gardens and nine Baby Care Rooms are all landside and unreachable without clearing arrival immigration.

### 3–6 hours — Time for the Calm Room, still without leaving transit

1. Take the Skytrain to Terminal 2 for the Calm Room, Changi's 24-hour sensory space near Dreamscape — no booking needed.
2. Feed and change in one of T2's transit Baby Care Rooms; one sits right next to the T2 play area.
3. Try a kids-dining deal if you're routed through T2 or T3 — Changi doesn't confirm which side of security each outlet sits on, so check when you arrive.

### Departing or arriving in Singapore — The full amenity set is open to you, no immigration trade-off needed

## Your rights

- **Lactation:** Singapore has no published national law requiring lactation rooms at airports. What Changi provides instead is its own network of 71 Baby Care Rooms across every terminal, almost all open 24 hours — an operator amenity, not a legal mandate documented here.
- **Changing tables:** No national mandate is documented for changing tables at Singapore airports. Changi equips every one of its 71 Baby Care Rooms with a changing table as standard, again as the operator's own provision.
- **Liquids:** Changi's own rule: if your baby is travelling with you, breast milk can board without the 100 ml limit; if the baby is not travelling with you, it must go in containers of 100 ml or less inside one 1-litre bag. Baby formula is also exempted from Singapore's 350 g powder limit on US-bound flights. This comes from the airport operator rather than Singapore's Civil Aviation Authority or Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, so treat it as Changi's stated practice rather than codified national law, and be ready to explain what you're carrying at the checkpoint.

### Can I visit Jewel Changi Airport if I'm just transiting?

Only if you clear arrival immigration first. Changi states plainly that Jewel sits in the public area between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, and that a transiting passenger will need to clear arrival immigration to enter Singapore and visit it. That means Jewel's slides, gardens and its nine landside Baby Care Rooms are all off-limits on a pure transit — you would need to leave the sterile area, go through immigration, spend time in Jewel, then come back and clear security again before your next flight. Changi does not publish how long that round trip takes, so budget generously and only attempt it on a long layover. If you're departing or arriving in Singapore rather than connecting, Jewel is simply open to you like any other part of the airport, with no extra step required.

### Does Changi Airport have play areas for kids?

Yes — ten of them, spread across all four terminals, and Changi's own directory lists exactly where. Five sit past security in the transit areas of T1, T2, T3 and T4, so a connecting family never has to enter Singapore to use one. Terminal 3's transit area alone has 13, several of them inside gate holdrooms so you never have to leave the boarding area. Nearly all of the terminal rooms are open 24 hours; the nine rooms inside Jewel are listed only as 'Daily' with no 24-hour tag, and — like everything else in Jewel — they are landside, so a transiting passenger cannot reach them without clearing immigration. ### Is there a sensory room at Singapore Changi Airport?

Yes, the Calm Room, which opened in Terminal 2's departure transit area in October 2025.
