# Southwest Florida Airport (RSW) with Kids: Every Family Facility, Mapped

**Short answer:** Southwest Florida International has four private Nursing Stations, one past security in each of Concourses B, C and D and one before security in the West Atrium near Concourse D, each with a sink and changing station. RSW's maps show no children's play area, sensory room, family lane or stroller rental.

**Velivolo family score:** 4.6/10 (Fair)

RSW's family strength is feeding and changing: four private Nursing Stations, one in each concourse and one in the main terminal's West Atrium before security, all with a lounge chair, sink, toddler seat and baby changing station. Beyond that it's thin. The official terminal maps show no children's play area, and there's no sensory room, family security lane or stroller rental on the airport's site. Each concourse has its own checkpoint, so know which one your airline uses.

## Security with children

- **Family lane:** RSW publishes no family security lane. Each concourse (B, C and D) has its own TSA checkpoint, which stays open until about 30 minutes before that concourse's last scheduled departure and never past midnight. RSW asks travellers to be in the security line two hours before departure. For extra help, contact TSA Cares at least 72 hours ahead, and RSW takes part in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program.
- **Strollers and car seats:** Strollers, baby carriers and car seats go through the X-ray, and anything too large is inspected by hand. Take your child out and carry them through the walk-through metal detector.
- **Formula, milk and baby food:** Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag.
- **Shoes:** Children 12 and under can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on during screening.
- **PreCheck:** Children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane with an enrolled parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 on the same reservation can too, if the PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.

## Getting between terminals

RSW has one main terminal, open to the public, with three concourses: B to the east, C in the middle and D to the west. Ticket counters, baggage claim and the West Atrium Nursing Station are in the main terminal. Concourse C is partly under construction and is reached through a passenger access tunnel. Lee County visitor information booths are near the entrances to Concourses B and D.

## Layover plans

### 1–2 hours — Settle in your concourse

1. Use the Nursing Station in your concourse for feeding and changing.
2. Grab food at Shula Burger (B), Evolve Eats (C) or Keylime Bistro (D).
3. Walk the concourse to burn off energy; there is no play area.

### 3–5 hours — Before security, then through

1. Use the West Atrium Nursing Station before security if you arrive early.
2. Dunkin' in the main terminal is a pre-security snack stop.
3. Concourse D families can browse the LEGO store.

### Late flight — Watch checkpoint closing times

1. Each checkpoint closes about 30 minutes before its last departure.
2. No checkpoint stays open past midnight.
3. Be in the security line 2 hours before departure.

## Your rights

- **Lactation:** As a medium hub, RSW falls under the FAM Act's requirement for a non-restroom lactation space past security. It has a private Nursing Station in each of its three concourses.
- **Changing tables:** RSW's Nursing Stations each include a baby changing station; the airport doesn't publish whether standard restrooms have changing tables.
- **Liquids:** TSA's national rule applies at RSW: formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Declare them at the start of screening.
- **Boarding:** Family boarding is set by your airline, not by RSW. Check your carrier before you fly.
- **If it is missing:** Use a silver courtesy phone in the terminal or call 239-590-4810 for paging. For screening help, call TSA Cares at least 72 hours before your flight.

## FAQ

### Does RSW have a kids' play area?

RSW doesn't list one. Its official main terminal and concourse maps show restaurants, shops, restrooms and Nursing Stations, but no children's play area in Concourses B, C or D, and the airport's site doesn't mention one. RSW doesn't state that none exists, so treat it as unconfirmed. If your child needs to move, the LEGO store in Concourse D and the airport's Art in Flight exhibits are worth a look.

### Where can I breastfeed or pump at RSW?

RSW has four private Nursing Stations. One is before security in the West Atrium near Concourse D, and there is one past security in each of Concourses B, C and D. Each has a leather lounge chair and ottoman, a small table, a sink with a touchless faucet, a cube chair and toddler seat, a baby changing station and dimmable lighting, so you can bring an older sibling in with you.

### Are there family restrooms at RSW?

RSW's terminal maps show men's and women's restrooms but don't mark any family or companion restrooms, and the airport's site doesn't mention them. The Nursing Stations each have a baby changing station and are your most reliable private option.

### Does RSW have a sensory room?

RSW's site doesn't list one. The airport is a member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, so travellers can wear a Sunflower lanyard to let staff know they may need extra time or help. For screening support, contact TSA Cares at least 72 hours before your flight.

### Which concourse does my airline use at RSW?

Concourse B has Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, Avelo, Discover, Frontier, Porter, Southwest and Sun Country. Concourse C has Delta, United and WestJet. Concourse D has American, Breeze and JetBlue. Each concourse has its own checkpoint and its own Nursing Station.

### Does RSW have a family security lane?

RSW doesn't publish one. Each concourse has its own checkpoint, open until about 30 minutes before that concourse's last departure and never past midnight. RSW asks travellers to be in line two hours before departure. Standard TSA family rules apply: kids 12 and under keep their shoes on, and formula and breast milk are allowed over 3.4 oz.

### Can I rent a stroller at RSW?

RSW doesn't mention stroller rental anywhere on its site. Its FAQ also notes that lockers and item storage aren't permitted in the terminal. Bring your own stroller and gate-check it under your airline's rules.

### What are the rules for formula and breast milk at RSW security?

TSA's national rules apply. Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed in your carry-on above the 3.4 oz (100 ml) limit and don't need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag. You can carry your child through the walk-through metal detector.
