Can you bring a bassinet on a plane with Virgin Atlantic when traveling with a baby?

Bringing a bassinet on Virgin Atlantic

Short answer: you cannot bring and install your own full-size bassinet on board. Virgin Atlantic provides a limited number of airline-approved bassinets on selected long-haul aircraft and they must be requested in advance.

What to expect and what to do:

  • Request a bassinet when booking or before travel — bassinets are fitted at bulkhead seats and are issued subject to availability.
  • Bulkhead seat required — if a bassinet is allocated you’ll need a bulkhead seat (front of a cabin section) so crew can fit and use it safely.
  • Age/size limits and limited numbers — bassinets are intended for very young infants and there are size/weight limits; they’re limited in quantity so early request is important.
  • If you buy a separate seat for your child — you may use an approved child restraint (car seat) in the aircraft seat instead of a bassinet; check Virgin Atlantic’s approved list and installation rules.
  • Bringing personal travel cots or portable bassinets — most airlines don’t allow passenger-supplied bassinet installations; small portable travel cots/bed rolls typically must be checked as baggage or gate-checked, not used as an aircraft bassinet.
  • At the airport — confirm your bassinet request at check-in and again at the gate. If one isn’t available, staff will help with alternatives (bulkhead seat, car seat guidance, or lap travel).

If you’re unsure whether your flight is eligible for a bassinet or about age/weight rules, contact Virgin Atlantic reservations before traveling and request a bulkhead seat and bassinet allocation as early as possible. The crew will confirm on the day whether a bassinet can be fitted.
