Can you bring baby food pouches on a plane with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing baby food pouches on KLM

Yes — you can bring baby food pouches on a KLM flight when travelling with an infant. Pouches and pureed food for babies are treated as essential items and are exempt from the usual 100 ml/3.4 oz carry‑on liquid restriction, but they must be declared and screened at security.

  • Present them separately at security: tell the screening officer and place the pouches in a separate tray. They may be X‑rayed and could require opening for inspection.
  • Bring a reasonable quantity: carry enough for the flight plus some extra for delays — security staff will assess whether the amount is reasonable for your journey.
  • Frozen or chilled items: frozen or chilled baby food is allowed, but it must still go through screening and may need to be partially thawed for inspection.
  • Feeding on board: you may feed your baby during taxi, takeoff and landing. Cabin crew can usually help by providing hot water to warm pouches or bottles, but warming is not guaranteed and microwaves are not available.
  • Transit and international flights: the same exemption typically applies at each security checkpoint, but rules can vary by country—be ready to declare and show the food at every screening point.
  • Carry in hand baggage: keep pouches accessible in your cabin bag for easy handling and inspections. If you also carry formula or breast milk, those are treated similarly.

If you want extra reassurance, pack receipts or a small note about the infant’s age, but this is rarely required. Stay calm at security and explain you’re carrying food for an infant — staff are used to this and will guide you.
