Can you bring baby medicine on a plane with American Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing baby medicine on American Airlines

Yes — you may bring baby medicine in carry‑on luggage when flying with American Airlines. U.S. security rules allow liquids, gels and aerosols for infants (including formula, breast milk and medications) in amounts greater than 3.4 oz. These items must be declared to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer at the checkpoint for inspection.

Practical points to make travel smooth:

  • Declare medications and liquids to the security officer before screening.
  • Keep medicines in carry‑on and, when possible, in original labeled containers or with a prescription/doctor’s note for clarity.
  • Reasonable quantities are permitted; carry enough for the flight plus delays, and an extra dose if possible.
  • Cooling packs and small coolers used for medicine are allowed but will be screened separately; frozen or partially frozen items may require additional inspection.
  • Syringes and needles for medical use are allowed if declared; bring documentation and inform security staff to avoid delays.
  • Avoid packing essential meds in checked baggage—carry them on in case of lost luggage.
  • International travel: check destination regulations and carry prescriptions or a doctor’s letter for controlled or injectable medicines.

Arrive a bit earlier at the airport to allow time for declaration and inspection. If you need help at the gate or onboard (warming milk, storing meds), ask American Airlines staff — they’re there to assist.
