Can you bring formula on a plane with Frontier Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing baby formula on a Frontier Airlines flight

Yes — you can bring baby formula when flying Frontier. Frontier follows standard airport security rules, so you may carry infant formula, breast milk, baby food, and juice for your child in your carry-on. These items are treated as an exception to the normal 3.4 oz/100 ml liquid rule for security screening, but you must declare them to the TSA/security officer at the checkpoint.

  • At security: Tell the TSA officer you have formula and other baby food items. Containers may be larger than 3.4 oz and are allowed, but they will be screened. Expect X-ray screening and possible additional inspection. Prepared bottles, breast milk, and formula are permitted; powdered formula will also be screened and may be tested separately.
  • Frozen and chilled items: Ice packs, frozen formula, and refrigerated items are allowed, but if ice packs are partially melted or slushy they are treated as liquids and may require additional screening. If they are frozen solid at the time of screening they usually pass without extra checks.
  • On board: Keep formula and bottles in your carry-on so you can access them during the flight. Flight attendants commonly help with heating bottles or providing hot water when possible, but availability can vary and is not guaranteed, so plan accordingly.
  • Quantity and documentation: No special receipts or prescriptions are typically required. Bring enough formula for the trip plus extra in case of delays. A small note or a baby’s travel document is not required for formula specifically, but having the baby’s ID or documentation can be helpful for general travel.
  • Checked baggage: You may also pack formula in checked baggage, but it’s safer to carry it in the cabin so it’s available when needed and to avoid potential loss or damage in checked bags.
  • International travel and customs: For international flights, Frontier will allow you to carry formula through security, but you must also comply with the destination country’s customs and import rules for dairy/food products. Check destination restrictions for bringing baby formula or milk into another country.

Useful practical tips to make your trip easier:

  • Measure powdered formula into single-serving containers or use pre-measured packets for quicker prep after security.
  • Bring extra bottles and nipples, plus wipes for cleaning and a small travel bottle brush if you plan to wash items.
  • Pack more formula than you think you’ll need in case of delays or missed connections.
  • Use a soft-sided insulated cooler or zip-top bags with frozen gel packs (frozen solid at screening) to keep formula cold; be prepared for additional screening of those packs.
  • At security, present formula and breast milk separately from other carry-ons and clearly tell the officer what each container holds to speed processing.

Bottom line: Bring formula in your carry-on, declare it at security, expect inspection, and pack extras. Frontier permits infant formula items, but always follow the airport security rules where you start your journey and check destination import rules for international travel.
