Can you bring a baby carrier on a plane with Japan Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing a baby carrier on Japan Airlines

Yes — you may bring and wear a soft baby carrier (sling, wrap, soft structured carrier) on Japan Airlines. Important: a soft carrier is not an approved child restraint system for use as a substitute for a seat or certified car seat during taxi, takeoff, turbulence or landing. Flight crew will give instructions for safety during those phases of flight.

  • Wearing the carrier: You can normally board and move through the cabin wearing a soft carrier, but be prepared to remove or adjust it if crew ask during safety-critical times.
  • Using a separate seat: If you purchase a seat for your infant and want to secure them in their own seat, you must use a child restraint that is approved for aircraft use (a CRS/car seat labeled for aircraft). Soft carriers do not qualify.
  • Safety checks: Follow crew instructions about holding or securing your baby. Airlines may require you to unbuckle the carrier and hold the infant in your lap using the adult seat belt or other approved restraint method when instructed.
  • Before you travel: Contact Japan Airlines to confirm any aircraft-specific rules, whether an infant belt is available, and how many carry-on items (carrier plus other baby gear) are allowed. Policies can vary by route and aircraft.
