Can you bring a baby carrier on a plane with Southwest Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Southwest — Bringing a baby carrier

  • Yes — soft/wearable baby carriers are allowed. You can wear a carrier through the airport and on board, but follow crew and safety instructions.
  • Gate‑check strollers and car seats are free. Southwest accepts collapsible strollers and car seats at the gate at no charge. If you want to use a car seat on board, it must be FAA‑approved and you’ll need to buy a seat for the child.
  • Security screening: TSA may ask you to remove your child from the carrier for screening or for passing through the metal detector.
  • During takeoff/landing: Wearable carriers generally are not considered approved child restraints. Flight attendants may ask you to remove the carrier and hold the infant on your lap or use an FAA‑approved car seat if the child occupies their own seat.
  • When in doubt, ask at check‑in or the gate. Staff can confirm gate‑check and any safety requirements for your specific flight.
