Can you bring a car seat on a plane with All Nippon Airways when traveling with a baby?

Can I bring a car seat on a plane with All Nippon Airways (ANA)?

Yes — you can bring and use a car seat (child restraint) on ANA, but there are important rules to follow. The main points are:

  • The child must have a separate, ticketed seat if you intend to install and use the car seat on board. Lap infants cannot use a car seat unless a seat is purchased for them.
  • The car seat must be certified for aircraft use. Look for a manufacturer label saying the restraint is approved for use on aircraft (FAA, ECE or equivalent wording). Use only according to the car seat manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Install the car seat in a single passenger seat (window seat preferred). Car seats are not permitted in exit rows or where installation would block evacuation. Follow the aircraft seat belt routing directions provided by the car seat maker.
  • Notify ANA in advance — when booking or before travel — to confirm space and any airline-specific guidance. Availability and rules can vary by aircraft and route.
  • If you don’t use the car seat in flight, you may gate-check it or check it as baggage. Gate-checking is common for strollers and car seats but policies on damage or liability differ, so ask the airline staff.

For peace of mind, contact ANA customer service with your car seat model and your booking reference before flying so they can confirm suitability and any additional steps.
