Can you bring a changing pad on a plane with Spirit Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing a changing pad on a Spirit Airlines flight

You can bring a changing pad for your baby. Changing pads and other baby essentials are allowed in carry-on baggage and by TSA rules they are permitted through security. How Spirit treats the item depends on its size and how you pack it.

  • Pack it inside your diaper bag or personal item if it’s a compact or foldable pad — that’s the easiest way to avoid extra fees.
  • If the pad is large or bulky, it may be considered a carry-on. Spirit charges for carry-on bags that exceed the free personal item allowance, so you could incur a fee if it doesn’t fit as your personal item.
  • Disposable or thin travel pads are convenient and take up minimal space; they’re fine to bring through security.
  • Screening: expect the changing pad and diaper bag to go through TSA X-ray screening. If it’s wet or heavily soiled, it’s best to dispose of it before screening.
  • Stroller or car seat: if you attach the pad to a stroller or car seat, remember those items may be gate-checked or checked depending on space and airline policy.

If you want certainty about fees or allowances for your specific itinerary, check your Spirit booking details or call Spirit customer service before travel. At the airport, ask a gate or ticket agent for help if you’re unsure what will fit as your personal item.
