Can you bring a pack and play on a plane with Emirates when traveling with a baby?

Can I bring a pack and play on a plane with Emirates when traveling with a baby?

Short answer: Yes — you can take a pack and play (travel cot/portable playard) when flying with Emirates, but it cannot be used as an onboard bassinet and will normally need to be checked (either at check-in or gate-checked).

Airlines treat pack and plays as bulky baby equipment rather than cabin furniture. Emirates provides bassinets for young infants in certain seats and on a first-come, first-served basis, but those are fixed airline bassinets and are not the same as a pack and play. If you want an onboard sleeping option, request a bassinet when you book or contact Emirates in advance; availability is limited.

  • How it’s usually handled: Fold or collapse the pack and play and check it with your other baggage or ask to gate-check it. You will not be allowed to set it up in the cabin or use it attached to a seat.
  • Possible charges: A foldable travel cot may be accepted free of charge as baby equipment in addition to the infant allowance, but if it exceeds size/weight rules it could be counted against checked baggage allowance or incur excess fees. Check your ticket’s infant baggage allowance and confirm with Emirates.
  • If you have bought a seat for your child: You can use an approved child restraint/car seat on board (subject to aircraft and seat compatibility). Pack and plays are not a substitute for a certified child restraint when using a purchased seat.
  • Gate-check vs. check-in: Smaller strollers and some travel cots are often gate-checked and returned at the aircraft door on arrival; larger items may need to be checked at the counter. Ask the check-in or gate agent what to do.
  • Practical tips: Collapse and pack the playard in a protective bag, attach your contact info, arrive early, tell the check-in agent you have a travel cot, and request a bassinet in advance if you think you’ll need one onboard.
  • Confirm before travel: Policies and allowances can vary by route and ticket type, so contact Emirates or your travel agent before departure to confirm how the pack and play will be accepted and whether any fees or size limits apply.

If you’d like, tell me your departure country, route, and whether you’ve purchased a seat for the infant and I’ll help you prepare what to ask Emirates when you call or email.
