Can you bring baby snacks on a plane with American Airlines when traveling with a baby?

Bringing baby snacks on American Airlines

Yes — you can bring baby snacks on American Airlines. Solid snacks (puffs, crackers, fruit bars, cereal, jarred baby food that’s solid) are allowed in carry‑on and checked bags just like any other food. For liquids and gels (breast milk, formula, juice, strained/pureed baby food), different screening rules apply at the security checkpoint.

  • Liquid/gel baby foods and drinks: Breast milk, formula, baby juice and purees are allowed in quantities greater than 3.4 oz (100 ml). You must declare them to TSA officers at screening for separate inspection.
  • Solid snacks: Pack them in your carry‑on for easy access during the flight; they are not subject to the liquid limit.
  • Screening: Items for infants may be X‑rayed or tested by hand; allow a little extra time at security.
  • Onboard use: You may feed your baby on the plane. American Airlines typically permits these items in the cabin.
  • International travel: Be aware of customs and agricultural rules at your destination — some countries restrict bringing fresh fruit, meat, dairy or plants.

Helpful packing tips:

  • Pack purees in resealable containers or travel jars and bring spoons/wipes.
  • Bring extra supplies in case of delays (snacks, formula, disposable bibs).
  • If you use breast milk or formula, keep it in an insulated bag with ice packs if needed — still declare at security.
  • Inform gate agents or flight attendants if you need hot water for formula; many airlines can assist but it’s not guaranteed.
