Aviation Fit & In-Flight Installation

The Liing carrier installs on aircraft via blue belt routing guides using the airplane lap belt — the base is not used in flight. At 16.9 inches wide, the carrier fits Delta A321neo (17.2 in), Southwest MAX 8 (17.8 in), JetBlue A321 (17.8 in), and United 787-9 economy (17.3 in) seats; armrests should be raised on American Main Cabin narrowbodies at 16.7 inches. Clek publishes one of the clearest bright blue belt-routing reducing seatbelt installation errors.

The Clek Liing is the top choice for safety-focused families who fly internationally — its published European belt routing is among the clearest of any infant carrier, and the 16.9-in shell fits a wide range of economy seats and is helpful for three across.

  • 9-year shell expiration with Lifetime Extended Warranty for 2024-purchased seats registered within 90 days — longest coverage in its class.
  • Slim 16.5-inch width enables three-across configurations and aircraft compatibility in most economy seats without the armrest raised.
  • Broad Maxi-Cosi-style stroller adapter compatibility — pairs with Bugaboo, Cybex, UPPAbaby, Mockingbird, Baby Jogger, Stokke, and Joolz.
  • Compact back to front, which is helpful on aircrafts with a smaller seat pitch.

  • Great added safety features in the base including rigid LATCH anchors, load leg, and 7 recline positions. (Base cannot be used on aircraft).
Cons
  • Rethread harness requires threading straps through the back of the seat for each height adjustment.
  • At $500, the Liing is among the most expensive infant carriers available — approximately double the price of the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 DLX.
  • Slightly heavier than other infant carriers - weighing 10.5lbs with the infant inserts in, and ~9lbs without them.

Best For

Safety-focused families who also travel

The Clek Liing has several added safety features including rigid LATCH anchors (UAS), an energy-absorbing load leg, 7 recline positions that may be adjusted after installation, and all fabrics are flame retardant free.

Families planning to use the same seat for multiple children

The 9-year shell expiration and Lifetime Extended Warranty make the Liing the strongest long-horizon value in its class — a seat purchased for a first child may be safely reused for a sibling born years later.

Three-across minivan families with multiple young children

At 16.9 inches wide, the Liing is one of the slimmest premium infant carriers enabling three-across combination for larger families. It is also compact back to front for smaller vehicles, and aircraft rows with small seat depth.

Premium stroller ecosystem shoppers

Per Clek's compatibility documentation, the Liing connects via Maxi-Cosi-style adapters to Bugaboo Fox 5, Cybex Priam, Stokke Xplory X, Joolz Hub+, Baby Jogger City Mini GT2, and Mockingbird — among the broadest stroller compatibility of any infant carrier.

Key Features

1

Rigid LATCH with Load Leg Base

The Liing base features rigid LATCH connectors that snap into vehicle anchor points in approximately 5 seconds, plus a deployable load leg that contacts the vehicle floor to manage crash energy. The combination of rigid LATCH and load leg provides the highest structural integrity in a rear-facing infant install.

Rigid LATCH + load leg: BabyGearLab's crash-sensor benchmark leader
2

European Belt Routing for Vehicle Installation

The Liing carrier supports European belt routing — a specific lap-belt path through the carrier's belt guides that allows installation without the base in vehicles. Clek is recognized by the Velivolo CPST reviewers as publishing one of the clearest European routing diagrams of any US-market infant seat. This routing is great for baselss rental car and rideshare installation.

3

9-Year Shell with Lifetime Extended Warranty

The Liing shell expires 9 years from the date of manufacture. Seats purchased on or after January 1, 2024, manufactured on or after January 1, 2023, and registered within 90 days of purchase at clekinc.com qualify for the Lifetime Extended Warranty to the product's full expiration date. This means a Liing purchased today is covered for the entire 9-year shell life — the most comprehensive warranty coverage in the premium infant segment.

Wide Stroller Ecosystem Compatibility

Per Clek's compatibility documentation, the Liing uses Maxi-Cosi-style connection geometry, making it compatible via brand adapters with Bugaboo Fox 5 (adapter included), Bugaboo Dragonfly ($50), Cybex Priam ($0 included), Stokke Xplory X ($50), Joolz Hub+ and Aer+ ($50 each), UPPAbaby Vista V3 and Cruz V3 ($50 Clek-made adapter), Mockingbird Single-to-Double ($50), Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 and City Select 2 ($40 each), and Babyzen YOYO2 ($50 adapter). The recommended pairing is the Bumbleride Era, available as a bundle with the adapter included free.

Real-World Scenarios

International economy flight with newborn to Europe

The Liing's bright blue belt path guides make aircraft installation with the lap belt very straightforward. The 16.9-in width fits most widebody economy seats, and because the Liing is compact back to front, it fits comfortably in most aircraft rows. Clek's routing guide reduces install errors common on international flights where crew may be unfamiliar with rear-facing infant seat procedures.

Domestic cross-country flight with 3-month-old

FAA accepted carrier with label on side of shell. Wide stroller compatibility helps parents choose a stroller they like, and can use with this infant carrier for easy travel from curb to gate.

Budget-conscious family comparing against mid-market options

At $500, the Liing is approximately double the price of the Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 DLX ($120–140) and significantly above the Chicco KeyFit 35 ($200–250). For families who fly infrequently and prioritize cost, the Liing's premium engineering features may not justify the price differential versus these alternatives.

How It Compares

UPPAbaby Mesa V2
$329–$399
UPPAbaby stroller ecosystem and 35-lb weight ceiling

Per UPPAbaby's published documentation, the Mesa V2 is an FAA accepted infant carrier with a 35-lb weight limit and MAP-protected pricing around $329–399. The Mesa V2 is lighter at approximately 10 lbs and integrates more naturally with UPPAbaby's stroller ecosystem, but lacks the Liing's REACT crumple zone and published European belt routing diagram. Choose the Mesa V2 for UPPAbaby stroller owners or budget sensitivity; choose the Liing for crash performance and international travel.

Nuna PIPA RX
$400–$450
Lightweight carry at 7.6 lbs and compact baseless travel design

Per Nuna's published documentation, the PIPA RX is an FAA accepted infant carrier with a 32-lb limit and rigid pipaFIX base, at approximately $450. The PIPA RX is lighter at 7.6 lbs versus the Liing's 9 lbs and uses a compact baseless design. The Liing has a superior published aircraft installation diagram; the PIPA RX is lighter for airport carry. Both are crash-test leaders in BabyGearLab comparative testing and represent the top tier of premium infant carriers.

Cybex Aton G
$350–$400
Better value pricing and Cybex stroller ecosystem

Per Cybex's published documentation, the Aton G is an FAA accepted infant carrier at approximately 9 lbs with a 35-lb weight limit and LSP linear side-impact protection. The Aton G is priced at approximately $350–400 versus the Liing at $500. Both are premium crash-test performers. The Liing has the clearer aircraft installation guide and longer 9-year expiration; the Aton G costs less and offers the Cybex stroller ecosystem.

Doona Doona+
$499–$550
Integrated car seat and stroller for minimal-gear airport travel

Per Doona's published documentation, the Doona+ is an FAA accepted infant car seat that converts to a stroller, covering infants 4–35 lbs. At approximately $499–550, it is similarly priced to the Liing. The Doona+ eliminates a separate stroller but weighs approximately 16.5 lbs versus the Liing's 9-lb carrier. Choose the Doona+ for gate-to-cab travel without a stroller; choose the Liing for crash performance, stroller ecosystem flexibility, and lighter airport carry.

Velivolo Travel Tips

Airport & Travel Tips

Keep Base at Home and Practice

The base is not certified for use on aircraft. Many parents choose to leave the base behind, and practice a baseless installation in their vehicle at home before they travel. If you prefer to bring the base, or it makes sense for your trip (moving, month-long vacations) be sure to check the base in a secure and padded bag or box.

Locate the FAA-acceptance label

Locate the FAA-acceptance label on the shell of the seat before you fly. It reads. "this restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and on aircraft" in red lettering. A gate agent, or cabin crew member may ask to see this approval label.

Book the Window Seat

Car seats should be used in the window seat, although other seating locations may be permitted depending on the aircraft configuration. Reserve a window seat away from the emergency exit rows at the time of booking to avoid potential egress concerns.

Register Within 90 Days for Lifetime Warranty

Per Clek's published warranty terms, seats purchased on or after January 1, 2024 qualify for the Lifetime Extended Warranty when registered within 90 days of purchase at clekinc.com. Missing this window reverts coverage to the standard 1-year warranty. Register immediately after purchase to lock in the full 9-year coverage to the seat's expiration date.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Liing is certified for use in all motor vehicles and aircraft. For aircraft installation use only the carrier portion — without the base. Always confirm the FAA acceptance sticker on the carrier shell is present before flying, and note that the carrier must occupy a purchased child seat. Car Seats should be placed in the window seat, reserve a window seat at the time of booking.

The Liing covers infants from 4 to 30 pounds and up to 32 inches in height. The minimum 4-pound entry point is suitable for smaller newborns; the included infant insert supports infants through approximately 11 pounds. In practice, most infants outgrow the Liing by height before reaching the weight limit, typically around 9-12 months depending on growth rate.

The Liing shell expires 9 years from the date of manufacture. The date of manufacture is printed on a sticker located on the bottom of the carrier shell and on the base.

Yes, the Liing carrier can be installed without the base. You may install the seat without the base using the published European belt routing in the vehicle. This routing threads the vehicle's seatbelt through designated guides on the carrier and around the back of the car seat. The routing diagram is available at clekinc.com. The baseless belt-only installation takes approximately 45 seconds once the routing is practiced.

The Liing uses Maxi-Cosi-style connection geometry and is compatible via brand adapters with Bugaboo Fox 5 (adapter included free), Bugaboo Dragonfly ($50), Bugaboo Butterfly ($45), Cybex Priam 4 (adapter included), Cybex Libelle ($30), Stokke Xplory X ($50), Joolz Hub+ and Aer+ ($50 each), UPPAbaby Vista V3 and Cruz V3 ($50 Clek-made adapter), UPPAbaby Minu V3 ($50), Mockingbird Single-to-Double ($50), Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 and City Select 2 ($40 each), BOB Wayfinder ($60), Thule Urban Glide 3 ($80), and Babyzen YOYO2 ($50). The recommended pairing is the Bumbleride Era, available as a bundle with the adapter included free. Verify current adapter availability at clekinc.com before purchase.

The Liing installs on aircraft using the carrier only. Most travel families choose to leave the base at home to avoid lugging it around. If you leave the base behind, be sure to practice a baseless installation in your vehicle at home before you travel. On the aircraft, simply route the aircraft lap belt through the belt guides on both sides of the seat. Securely fasten the aircraft lap belt and pull on excess webbing to tighten. Check to ensure the seat moves no more than one inch in either direction, and the recline is appropriate for your child's age, weight, and height.
