Babyzen YOYO2 Review

Babyzen YOYO2 is the original carry-on stroller — the product that proved overhead-bin travel was possible — and still holds the thinnest fold at 7.1" depth. At 13.6 lbs with BabyGearLab 76/100, it remains among the lightest and most gate-recognized travel strollers globally. The context you need: the YOYO2 is being phased out as Stokke transitions to the YOYO3. Buying at a meaningful discount ($40+) still makes strong sense — performance is identical. At full price, the YOYO3 or Joolz Aer+ are better buys.

10/10

7.1" depth — the thinnest fold of any stroller ever made. Fits most real overhead bins; only the GB Pockit variants are more compact.

13.6 lbs — one of the lightest premium travel strollers available. Shoulder strap turns it into genuinely hands-free carry through airports.

Airport Navigation
9/10

17.3" width is narrowest in the premium class. Rolls smoothly on polished airport floors. Gate agents worldwide recognize it — no explanations needed.

Setup Speed
7/10

Two-hand tri-fold with real learning curve and no self-stand. Once mastered it's fast, but first-time performance under airport stress is notoriously poor.

Airline Compliance
8/10

Gate Check & Airline Info

Fits in overhead bin
Fits in gate check bag

The most-cited carry-on stroller globally — gate agents on five continents recognize it immediately. Fits most US overhead bins with 7.1" depth wheels-first. Width 17.3" exceeds strict US 22×14×9" sizer but physically clears real Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 bins. Confirmed in cabin on A320 and 737 by God Save The Points. Free gate-check on Delta, American, United, Southwest, JetBlue. Zipair rejects YOYO per Anna Everywhere. Ryanair and Wizz Air reject it (44 cm vs 40 cm limit). Shoulder strap and carry bag included.

Who Should Buy the Babyzen YOYO2?

Discount shoppers

As the YOYO2 exits production, retailers are clearing inventory at 10–20% below YOYO3 pricing. For parents who find the YOYO2 at $40+ discount versus the YOYO3, the performance is identical — the 7.1" fold and 13.6 lb weight are unchanged between generations.

Frequent international flyers

At 7.1" depth and 13.6 lbs, the YOYO2 is the most consistent overhead-bin stroller across the broadest range of airline types. Gate agents globally recognize it without questions or negotiation — a genuine time saver on tight connections.

Two-child families

The YOYO Connect double conversion ($499) works with YOYO2 and YOYO3 frames interchangeably. Families who already own the YOYO2 and expect a second child can add the YOYO Connect without upgrading to YOYO3 — the fold compatibility is identical.

Subway and transit commuters

17.3" width, 13.6 lbs, and the included shoulder strap make the YOYO2 the lightest and narrowest premium stroller for transit-heavy cities. The shoulder carry option makes stairs and escalators significantly easier than wheeled carry.

Key Features — What Makes the YOYO2 Stand Out

1

7.1" Fold — The Category Originator

The YOYO2's tri-fold achieves 7.1" depth — a dimension that defined the carry-on stroller category when it launched. The fold places the stroller horizontally in overhead bins with the narrow depth facing the bin opening. No subsequent revision by any brand has achieved a thinner fold at this stroller's capability level.

7.1" — the fold that created the carry-on stroller category, still the thinnest available
2

YOYO Connect Double System

The YOYO Connect ($499, sold separately) converts the YOYO2 into a two-seat configuration that folds to carry-on dimensions. Compatible with YOYO2 and YOYO3 frames. Both seats fold together to the same overhead-bin profile as the single. This remains the only airline-cabin-legal double stroller system in any category.

Only overhead-bin-legal double conversion — works with YOYO2 and YOYO3 frames
3

Shoulder Strap Included

The YOYO2 includes a shoulder strap that attaches at two points on the folded frame. At 13.6 lbs the stroller is genuinely shoulder-carryable for terminal navigation, subway stairs, and escalators. Most travel strollers charge $40–80 for equivalent carry bags or straps; YOYO includes it in the box.

Shoulder strap included — 13.6 lbs converts to hands-free carry without extra purchase
4

Three-Panel Extendable Canopy

The canopy extends across three panels with a plastic peek-a-boo window. UPF 50+ rating protects against UV radiation. The three-panel design covers the child fully in the reclined napping position. The plastic peek-a-boo window is the primary criticism versus competitors' mesh windows — it doesn't provide airflow when open.

Three-panel UPF 50+ canopy — full sun protection; plastic peek-a-boo is functional if not premium
5

Hytrel Polymer Wheels

Four independent Hytrel polymer wheels roll smoothly on polished surfaces without requiring inflation, replacement, or maintenance. The material provides grip and vibration absorption on airport and city pavement surfaces. The wheel profile enables the thin 7.1" fold — traditional foam-filled wheels would prevent this dimension.

Real-World Performance

Airport travel

Best-in-class. 7.1" depth and 13.6 lbs give the YOYO2 the best overhead-bin credentials in any premium travel stroller. Gate agents worldwide recognize it. Shoulder strap carries it hands-free through long terminals.

City sidewalks

Good. 13.6 lbs and narrow 17.3" width make it highly maneuverable. No suspension means vibration on rough pavement is more noticeable than foam-tire alternatives. Best on smooth city surfaces.

Public transit

Excellent. Narrowest premium travel stroller for turnstile access. Shoulder strap makes stair carry practical. Folding learned = fast platform transitions.

Grocery shopping

Poor. 11-lb basket is the smallest in the premium quad. Not designed for shopping trips — supplement with a handlebar hook or backpack.

Restaurant dining

Adequate. Two-hand fold requires a flat surface to execute neatly. Forward-facing only. Narrow footprint fits beside tables when unfolded.

Theme parks

Excellent. Globally recognized by park staff — no explanations needed. 13.6 lbs manages long park days. Shoulder strap handles strollerless attractions.

How the YOYO2 Compares

Babyzen YOYO3
$500–$550
Future parts support, Stokke brand backing

The YOYO3 is the YOYO2's direct successor under Stokke branding with the same 7.1" fold and ~14 lb weight. Both sell simultaneously through mid-2026. The YOYO3 carries Stokke's brand identity. At equivalent prices, the YOYO3 is the forward buy. If the YOYO2 is $40+ cheaper, the performance difference is negligible — buy the YOYO2.

Joolz Aer+
$449–$499
Expert score, warranty length (10 years), one-hand fold, price

The Joolz Aer+ scores 84/100 at BabyGearLab vs YOYO2's 76/100, has a faster one-hand fold, a 10-year warranty, and is $0–$50 cheaper than the YOYO2. The YOYO2 wins on fold depth (7.1" vs 9.2"), global gate recognition, and YOYO Connect double conversion. For ease of use and warranty, Aer+. For maximum fold compactness and double conversion, YOYO2.

Stokke YOYO3
$500–$550
Brand backing, Stokke warranty and support

The Stokke YOYO3 is technically the same physical product as the YOYO2 evolution under new branding. Performance is identical. Choose YOYO3 for Stokke's brand support and any design refinements; choose YOYO2 if available at a meaningful discount during the stock clearance period.

Velivolo Travel Tips

Airport & Travel Tips for the YOYO2

Practice the fold at home before your first trip

The YOYO2's two-hand tri-fold has a genuine learning curve. Practice 15–20 times at home until it's muscle memory. The fold sequence: push chassis forward, fold seat back, compress. First airport attempt without practice often results in a frustrating gate-area struggle.

Load overhead bin wheels-first at 7.1" depth

Rotate the YOYO2 so the 7.1" depth faces the bin opening when loading. On Boeing 737 and A320, this orientation fits cleanly alongside one rollaboard. On narrow regional jets, plan to gate-check — bins are too shallow even for the 7.1" YOYO.

Zipair and strict Asian carriers: gate-check

Anna Everywhere reports Zipair rejects the YOYO2 as cabin carry. Some Asian carriers with strict carry-on enforcement may reject it despite the thin fold. Research specific airline policies before international trips to Asia and book a gate-check plan as default.

Use YOYO Connect for two-child travel

The YOYO Connect ($499) works with both YOYO2 and YOYO3 frames. If you already own the YOYO2 and have a second child, the Connect is fully compatible — no need to upgrade to YOYO3 first. Both configurations fold to carry-on size.

Buy a separate carry bag for gate-check

The included shoulder strap is fine for carrying through the terminal but provides no protection during jet bridge handling. If gate-checking is your primary mode, add a YOYO travel backpack ($79) or J.L. Childress bag ($20–25) for frame protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

The YOYO2 is worth buying specifically when it is priced $40 or more below the YOYO3 during the stock clearance period (through mid-2026). The physical performance is identical — same 7.1" fold, same 13.6 lb weight, same 20.5×17.3" footprint. The YOYO3 carries Stokke branding and any future design updates; the YOYO2 carries the original Babyzen heritage story. At full equal pricing, the YOYO3 is the better forward buy for parts and warranty support. If the YOYO2 is discounted meaningfully, it remains one of the best travel strollers available.

The Babyzen YOYO2 fits in most US overhead bins with its 7.1" depth loaded wheels-first. Width of 17.3" exceeds the strict US 22×14×9" carry-on sizer but physically clears real Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 overhead bins — confirmed by God Save The Points. Gate agents worldwide recognize the YOYO2 by sight and rarely ask questions. Free gate-check is available on all major US airlines (Delta, American, United, Southwest, JetBlue). On Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Zipair, plan to gate-check — width and carrier-specific policies make cabin carry unreliable on these carriers.

The Babyzen YOYO2 and Stokke YOYO3 share the same 20.5×17.3×7.1" fold and 13.6–14 lb weight — the physical fold mechanism was not redesigned between generations. The YOYO3 carries Stokke's brand identity following the acquisition and any minor design refinements since. Both products sell simultaneously through mid-2026. In practice, purchasing a YOYO2 at a meaningful discount versus the YOYO3 at full price is an excellent value decision — the strollers perform identically for travel purposes.

The Babyzen YOYO2 is compatible with Nuna PIPA series, Cybex Aton and Cloud series, Maxi-Cosi Mico series, Clek Liing, and BeSafe iZi Go Modular via brand-specific adapters (~$80). The adapter system creates a travel system from birth, bypassing the 6-month minimum age for the seat alone. Confirm current compatibility on babyzen's website before purchasing, as the list updates with new car seat model years. The YOYO Connect double add-on also works with YOYO2 and YOYO3 frames interchangeably.

The Babyzen YOYO2 seat is for children 6 months and older. For newborn use from birth, the separately purchased 0+ Newborn Pack ($140) provides a padded recline insert that supports head and body position in the YOYO2 frame. The YOYO Bassinet ($399) provides a lie-flat sleep surface. Compatible infant car seats also enable birth use via adapter. The 0+ Newborn Pack at $140 is the most economical option. This differs from the UPPAbaby Minu V3, which includes a built-in newborn mode with no accessories required.

Babyzen and Stokke have not published an end-of-support date for YOYO2 parts as of April 2026. The YOYO2 and YOYO3 share most components due to the identical fold mechanism — so YOYO3 parts should largely be cross-compatible. Stokke's US distribution network provides parts support. The main risk is that as YOYO2 inventory clears, specific YOYO2-branded components (color packs, canopy panels) may not be replenished. The color pack modular system means you can use YOYO3 color packs on a YOYO2 frame if YOYO2 packs become unavailable.
