Cybex Priam 4 Review

Cybex Priam 4 is the only full-size stroller with a one-pull harness tightening system — a single pull cinches the entire 5-point harness simultaneously, eliminating the dual-strap adjustment every other stroller requires. At 28.1–28.4 lbs and a 55 lb max child weight (highest in the premium sub-cluster), it is Cybex's Platinum flagship. The e-Priam electric motor upgrade path is unique in the category. Trade-off: the large folded footprint (210L) and heavy weight make it one of the least travel-friendly premium strollers in this group.

Travel Score — How Airplane-Friendly Is the Priam 4?

3
Travel Score
Home Base
Fold Size
3/10

37.4" x 23.6" x 14.5" folded (210L) — one of the largest folded profiles in the premium category. The 37.4" length is the primary constraint for rental car trunks and overhead storage.

Weight
3/10

28.4 lbs is on the heavier end of the premium full-size range. Heavy for single-arm carry through airports — plan for two-person handling or a stroller strap.

Airport Navigation
5/10

PU wheels with all-wheel suspension handle terminal floors adequately. The 2-wheel mode (front wheels lifted) can help on rough surfaces. Self-standing fold helps at the gate.

Setup Speed
7/10

One-hand self-standing fold deploys quickly. The Priam unfolds in one motion and locks automatically, making gate pickup faster than most strollers in this weight class.

Airline Compliance
7/10

ASTM F833-21 compliant. Cybex is JPMA/BSA certified. No stroller-specific recalls identified. Accepted gate-check free on all major US and major European carriers.

Gate Check & Airline Info

Fits in overhead bin
Fits in gate check bag

Gate-checked free on all major US carriers including Delta, American, United, Southwest, and JetBlue. At 28.4 lbs it is within all US airline gate-check weight limits. However, the folded dimensions (37.4" x 23.6" x 14.5") represent a long, bulky package. The 37.4" length exceeds British Airways' jet-bridge return limit of 46" x 15" x 15" — folded Priam 4 fits, but only barely. American Airlines removed its weight cap in 2024; Delta has no published weight limit for collapsible strollers.

Who Should Buy the Cybex Priam 4?

Parents who prioritize harness ease

The one-pull harness tightening system is genuinely faster than any other adjustment method — one pull tightens the entire 5-point harness simultaneously. This matters most for frequent car seat transitions and bundled-up winter use.

Families planning to use the stroller beyond toddlerhood

At 55 lbs max child weight (vs 50 lbs for most competitors), the Priam 4 supports children 1–2 years longer than alternatives. For families who want one stroller from birth to kindergarten, this capacity advantage is meaningful.

Design-forward European stroller buyers

Cybex's Priam line has won 450+ design awards across the brand. Jeremy Scott and Lamborghini collaborations exist for collectors. The Priam 4's aesthetic and build quality reflect Cybex's German-designed, luxury-positioned identity.

Tech-forward parents considering electric assist

The Priam 4 frame accepts the e-Priam electric motor upgrade, which provides motorized hill-climbing assist and auto-rocking mode. No other stroller in this category offers a direct path to electric assist without purchasing a separate e-stroller.

Key Features — What Makes the Priam 4 Stand Out

1

One-Pull Harness System

The Priam 4 is the only full-size stroller with a single-pull harness tightening mechanism. Rather than adjusting left and right shoulder straps separately, one pull on a single strap tightens the entire 5-point harness simultaneously. The release is equally simple. This is particularly valuable when switching between warm and cold-weather layers or during multi-stop travel days.

One pull tightens the entire 5-point harness — faster and more consistent than any other system.
2

e-Priam Electric Upgrade Path

The Priam 4 frame accepts Cybex's e-Priam electric motor module, a retrofit that adds motorized hill-climbing assist and an auto-rocking mode for calming infants in the stroller. The e-Priam is purchased separately and attaches without tools. This upgrade path is unique — no other full-size stroller in the premium category offers a direct path to electric assist.

Upgradeable to electric-assist — the only stroller in this cluster with a motor upgrade path.
3

2-Wheel Mode

The Priam 4's front wheels can be lifted into a 2-wheel mode where the stroller balances on the rear wheels only. This reduces the contact footprint on soft surfaces (beach entrances, deep carpet) and can help with curb navigation. The 2-wheel mode is initiated with a foot lever and locks securely.

2-wheel mode reduces contact surface on soft terrain — helpful for beach boardwalks and deep carpet.
4

XXL One-Hand Canopy

The Priam 4 canopy is one of the largest in the premium class, with a UPF 50+ rated fabric, a full peek-a-boo window, and one-hand extendable adjustment. The canopy also adjusts vertically as the seat position changes, maintaining coverage across all recline angles.

XXL canopy adjusts one-handed and tracks with seat recline angle — consistent shade in all positions.

Real-World Performance

City sidewalks

Competent urban performance. PU wheels with all-wheel suspension handle uneven pavement. 23.6" wheelbase is standard for this class. The 2-wheel mode helps at curbs. Width is slightly large for the narrowest European doorways.

Airport travel

Functional but inconvenient. At 28.4 lbs and 37.4" folded length, it is one of the heavier and longer strollers in this cluster. Self-standing fold is a positive. Plan for two-person handling at the jet bridge.

Public transit

Manageable on buses but challenging on crowded subway systems. The large folded footprint occupies significant floor space. Self-standing fold allows hands-free handling on platforms.

Suburban errands

Well suited for parking lot and store navigation. All-wheel suspension handles curb transitions smoothly. The large basket (though only 11 lbs rated) has an accessible opening from front and rear.

Restaurant dining

The Priam's narrower footprint when folded (14.5" depth) makes it easier to tuck against a wall than longer strollers. XXL canopy provides shade at outdoor dining without eye contact between parent and sun.

Road trips

The 37.4" folded length is the primary challenge — it may not fit in sedan trunks alongside luggage. Mid-size SUVs (RAV4, CR-V) can accommodate it. Rent an SUV or cargo van for road trips with the Priam 4.

How the Priam 4 Compares

Bugaboo Fox 5
$1,299–$1,499
Lighter weight (22 lbs), two-fold modes, all-terrain wheels, included bassinet

The Fox 5 is lighter (22 vs 28.4 lbs), has two fold modes including a compact 152L two-piece option, and includes the bassinet. Priam 4 wins on harness ease (one-pull), max child weight (55 vs 50 lbs), and the e-Priam electric upgrade path. Fox 5 wins on weight, fold flexibility, and all-terrain wheel performance.

Stokke Xplory X
$1,099–$1,399
Height-adjustable raised seat (unique), restaurant versatility

Both are European luxury strollers in the 29 lb weight class. Xplory X has a height-adjustable seat that raises the child to restaurant table height — a unique feature Priam lacks. Priam wins on one-pull harness and e-Priam electric upgrade. Xplory X wins on the raised-seat ergonomics and restaurant versatility.

Silver Cross Reef 2
$1,199.99
Magnesium chassis, Genius magnetic buckle, lower total system weight

Both are premium European strollers with 55 lb max child weight. Silver Cross Reef 2 has a magnesium alloy chassis and a Genius magnetic buckle. Priam 4 wins on one-pull harness and e-Priam upgrade path; Reef 2 has a lighter chassis weight (17.6 lbs chassis vs heavier Priam) and magnesium alloy construction.

Velivolo Travel Tips

Airport & Travel Tips for the Priam 4

Fold length is the key constraint for the Priam 4

The Priam 4's 37.4" folded length (not weight) is the main airport inconvenience. Gate check bags sized for 33" folded strollers won't fit — buy or confirm your gate check bag fits at least 38" length before your trip.

Gate check without the carry cot

Remove the Lux Carry Cot before gate-checking the Priam 4 — carry it as cabin baggage or check it separately. Gate agents rarely have a way to protect accessory attachments from damage, and the carry cot at $299–$399 is expensive to replace.

US carriers and the Priam 4 weight

American Airlines removed its 20-lb gate-check weight cap in 2024. Delta and Southwest have never published a weight limit for collapsible strollers. At 28.4 lbs, the Priam 4 is accepted free at gate check on all major US carriers without exception.

e-Priam users: remove motor module for gate check

If you have the e-Priam electric motor upgrade, remove the motor module before gate-checking the stroller frame. The motor module is expensive electronics that baggage handlers may not handle carefully. Carry the motor module in your personal bag.

International travel: carry cot vs car seat decision

For long-haul flights, Cybex infant car seats (Cloud Q/T/G) attach directly to the Priam 4 frame without adapters. Consider whether to gate-check the car seat separately or use the Priam in push-mode only during transit. Emirates allows only one of a stroller or car seat as the free infant item, not both.

Safety & Certifications

Certifications

ASTM F833-21CPSC 16 CFR Part 1227EN 1888:2018+A1:2022JPMA Certified

Recalls: No stroller-specific recalls identified for the Cybex Priam 4 as of April 2026. Note: Cybex car seat recalls exist — 2022 Sirona M (~20,526 units) for EPS foam hazard, and a 2026 Aton G/Aton G Swivel recall (NHTSA 25C002) for harness anchor bending — these are separate car seat products, not the Priam 4 stroller frame.

Safety Features

  • 5-point one-pull single-pull harness tightening system
  • All-wheel parking brake engaged by foot pedal
  • Anti-fold lock prevents accidental collapse while occupied
  • Self-standing fold with auto-lock — frame does not tip when parked folded
  • Reflective elements on canopy and lower frame for low-light visibility

Frequently Asked Questions

At $1,299 for the frame and seat, the Priam 4 is priced similarly to the Bugaboo Fox 5 ($1,299) but offers different trade-offs. The one-pull harness and 55 lb max child weight are genuine differentiators — no other stroller in this cluster has both. The e-Priam electric upgrade path is unique. The 28.4 lb weight and 37.4" folded length are meaningful limitations for airport travel. Resale holds at 50–60% at one year, making the effective 1-year cost roughly $520–$640. If harness ease and high child capacity are priorities, the Priam 4 is worth the premium. If travel performance matters more, the Fox 5 at a similar price is lighter and folds more compactly.

The Cybex Priam 4 can be gate-checked free on all major US airlines including Delta, American, United, Southwest, and JetBlue. At 28.4 lbs, it is within all US airline gate-check weight limits — American Airlines removed its 20-lb cap in 2024. The folded length of 37.4" is the most important measurement to check — confirm your gate-check bag accommodates at least 38" in length. Cybex is ASTM F833-21 compliant and JPMA/BSA certified. For British Airways flights, the Priam 4 folds within their 46" x 15" x 15" jet-bridge return limit only if the 14.5" depth dimension is used correctly.

Cybex Cloud Q, Cloud T, and Cloud G (Aton G series) infant car seats attach directly to the Priam 4 frame without adapters — they are designed as a system. For cross-brand use, Nuna PIPA series and Maxi-Cosi infant car seats require Cybex-specific adapters available from the Cybex accessories store. Note that the 2026 Aton G/Aton G Swivel car seat recall (NHTSA 25C002) affected the harness anchor — if you own an Aton G as your car seat, verify it has been remedied before pairing with the Priam 4.

The e-Priam is Cybex's electric motor module that attaches to the Priam 4 frame. It provides motorized hill-climbing assist (the motor engages when it detects uphill resistance) and an auto-rocking mode that gently rocks the stroller to soothe infants. The e-Priam module is purchased separately and attaches without tools. It adds roughly 5–7 lbs to the stroller weight. The battery charges via USB and provides approximately 4–6 hours of motorized assist per charge. The Priam 4 is the only stroller in the full-size premium category with this upgrade path.

The Priam 4 (2022–present) improved on the Priam 3 with the one-pull harness tightening mechanism, updated wheel design with improved suspension, a revised one-hand self-standing fold, and an updated canopy with larger peek-a-boo window. The Priam 3 had a manual two-strap harness like other strollers and lacked the one-pull feature that defines the Priam 4 generation. If you encounter a Priam 3 at a closeout price, the one-pull harness alone is worth the upgrade to Priam 4 if harness ease is a priority. The frame dimensions and accessory compatibility between Priam 3 and Priam 4 differ — accessories are not cross-compatible.
