Gate Check & Airline Info

Fits in overhead bin
Fits in gate check bag

Joovy markets the Kooper RS as travel-friendly because of its compact auto-lock fold and carry handle, but it does not claim carry-on or overhead-bin fit. At 29.1 x 20.7 x 12.2 inches folded, it is larger than the 22 x 14 x 9 inch carry-on limit at Delta, United and American and the 24 x 16 x 10 inch limit at Southwest. Check your airline's carry-on limit and expect to gate-check, and see Velivolo's overhead bin size guide for more on carry-on sizes. A padded gate-check bag helps protect the canopy and tray in transit.

Who Should Buy the Joovy Kooper RS

Families with bigger toddlers

With a seat rated to 55 lbs and 44 inches, a taller seatback than the original Kooper and an adjustable leg rest, the Kooper RS is built for kids who still want a stroller at 3 or 4 years old. If your child is outgrowing a tiny travel stroller, this is the kind of seat to look at.

Budget-minded flyers who gate-check

At $349.99, the Kooper RS gives you a full feature set (tray, cup holders, big basket, suspension) for less than many premium travel strollers. It is not carry-on size, so it suits families who are happy to gate-check and want a sturdier ride at the destination.

Everyday errands and outings

The 15 lb basket with front and rear access and the all-terrain wheels make it practical for grocery runs, zoo days and theme parks, not just the airport.

Key Features of the Kooper RS

1

Standing Auto-Lock Fold with Carry Handle

Joovy describes a one-hand, standing auto-lock compact fold. Once folded, the stroller locks and stands on its own, which is handy at the gate when you are juggling a toddler and bags. A built-in carry handle makes it easier to lift into a trunk or up a few steps.

2

Big-Kid Seat: 55 lbs and 44 Inches

The seat is rated for children up to 55 lbs and 44 inches tall, and Joovy says the seatback is taller than the original Kooper. For families planning a long trip with a 3 or 4 year old, that extra room matters.

3

Near-Flat Recline and Adjustable Leg Rest

A multi-position recline includes a near-flat position for naps on the go. An adjustable leg rest lets you adjust the seat as your child grows.

4

15 lb Basket with Front and Rear Access

Joovy calls it a super-sized storage basket. It holds up to 15 lbs and opens from the front and the back, so you can reach the diaper bag even when the seat is reclined.

5

All-Terrain Wheels with Suspension

Large 9 inch rear and 7 inch front wheels with suspension are designed for a smoother ride on sidewalks, gravel paths and uneven terminal floors.

6

Extendable UPF 50+ Canopy

The oversized canopy is water-repellent, rated UPF 50+, extends for more coverage and has a large peek-a-boo window so you can check on your child without stopping.

Real-World Performance

Airport travel

Good. The standing auto-lock fold and carry handle make the gate handoff easy, but at 19 lbs and 29.1 inches folded it is a gate-check stroller, not a carry-on.

City sidewalks

Good. Large wheels with suspension handle curbs and cracks well, and the canopy and tray keep kids comfortable on longer walks.

Public transit

Fair. The fold is quick, but the 20.7 inch width and 19 lb weight make crowded buses and subway stairs more work than with an ultra-compact stroller.

Newborn use

Fair. Seat use starts at 3 months per Joovy. For newborns you will need the Joovy car seat adapter (sold separately) and a compatible infant car seat from the compatibility chart.

Grocery shopping

Excellent. The 15 lb basket with front and rear access plus parent cup holders make errands easy.

Road trips

Good. The 29.1 x 20.7 x 12.2 inch fold fits most car trunks and the auto-lock keeps it closed while you pack around it.

Velivolo Travel Tips

Airport & Travel Tips

Plan to gate-check, and bag it

The Kooper RS is not marketed as carry-on size, so plan to gate-check it. A padded gate-check bag helps protect the canopy and the snack tray from scuffs while it rides in the cargo hold.

Fold before you reach the jet bridge

Use the standing auto-lock fold while you are still in the boarding line. Because it stands on its own when folded, you can hold your child with one hand and hand off the stroller with the other.

Pack the tray for the boarding wait

The included snack tray and cup holder make long waits at the gate easier. Load it with snacks before boarding starts, then empty it before you fold.

Sort out newborn use before the trip

If you are traveling with a baby under 3 months, check Joovy's car seat compatibility chart for the right adapter and practice clicking your infant car seat in at home, not at the curb.

Frequently Asked Questions

Joovy lists the Kooper RS at 19 lbs. That is heavier than ultra-compact travel strollers, and it is the trade-off for bigger 9 inch rear and 7 inch front wheels, a seat rated to 55 lbs and a 15 lb basket. The built-in carry handle makes short carries (stairs, shuttle steps, car trunks) easier, but if you plan to carry it long distances through an airport, a lighter model may suit you better.

Joovy does not market the Kooper RS as carry-on size. Joovy lists the fold at 29.1 x 20.7 x 12.2 inches (L x W x H), which is larger than the carry-on limits of major US airlines: for example 22 x 14 x 9 inches at Delta, United and American, and 24 x 16 x 10 inches at Southwest. Check your airline's carry-on limit and expect to gate-check. For more on carry-on sizes, see Velivolo's overhead bin size guide.

Joovy lists a minimum age of 3 months for the stroller seat. For newborn use, Joovy says the Kooper RS works with the Joovy car seat adapter, which is sold separately. Joovy publishes a car seat compatibility chart that shows which adapter matches which infant car seat, so check it (and your car seat manual) before you buy.

Joovy rates the seat for children up to 55 lbs and 44 inches tall. It also has a taller seatback than the original Kooper and an adjustable leg rest, so it is designed to keep bigger toddlers and preschoolers comfortable.

According to Joovy, the Kooper RS comes with a child snack tray with cup holder, mesh seatback pockets, parent cup holders, the canopy, the storage basket and the instruction manual. The car seat adapter and the rain cover are sold separately.

Joovy says every Joovy product carries a 90-day limited warranty from the date of purchase, with your sales receipt as proof of purchase. Keep your receipt somewhere easy to find, especially if you travel soon after buying.
