Security
Family lane
The Terminal B checkpoint has a designated TSA Family Lane for families with young children: look for the Family Lane sign. Each terminal has its own checkpoint, and any gate can be reached from any of them, so families can choose Terminal B for the Family Lane. John Wayne Airport's free Helping Hands programme (6am to 11pm daily, book 72 hours ahead) gives personalised help through check-in, security and boarding for travellers with hidden disabilities like autism, and can arrange a pre-trip tour.
Strollers and car seats
Strollers, baby carriers and car seats go through the X-ray, and anything too large is inspected by hand. Take your child out and carry them through the walk-through metal detector.
Formula, milk and baby food
Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag.
Shoes and jackets
Children 12 and under can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on during screening.
TSA PreCheck with kids
Children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane with an enrolled parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 on the same reservation can too, if the PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.
Pick the Terminal B checkpoint
Terminal B has the TSA Family Lane, and every checkpoint leads to every gate, so you can use it whatever your terminal.
SNA recommends arriving 1.5 to 2 hours before a domestic flight.
Through the Family Lane
