Five nursing rooms open 24/7 with sinks and changing tables, and a published list of every restroom with a diaper station.
CLEAR and PreCheck at both checkpoints and TSA Cares, but no published family lane.
A compact two-terminal airport, but SJC doesn't say whether you can walk between A and B after security.

Security
Family lane
SJC publishes no family security lane. CLEAR and TSA PreCheck operate at both the Terminal A and Terminal B checkpoints, and TSA Cares can arrange a Passenger Support Specialist if you contact it at least 72 hours ahead, including for a child with a disability or medical condition. Sunflower lanyards are available at check-in counters and information booths.
Strollers and car seats
Strollers, baby carriers and car seats go through the X-ray, and anything too large is inspected by hand. Take your child out and carry them through the walk-through metal detector.
Formula, milk and baby food
Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag.
Shoes and jackets
Children 12 and under can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on during screening.
TSA PreCheck with kids
Children 12 and under can use the TSA PreCheck lane with an enrolled parent or guardian. Teens 13 to 17 on the same reservation can too, if the PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass.
Check your terminal
Terminal A has Gates 1 to 16 and Terminal B has Gates 17 to 36. The Zoom Zone and four of the five nursing rooms are in Terminal B.
The rental car centre is across the street from Terminal B.
At the checkpoint
Fold the stroller for the X-ray and carry your child through the metal detector.
Ask for a Sunflower lanyard at check-in or an information booth if your child needs it.
Changing and feeding
Nursing rooms near Gates 8, 18, 21, 24 and 26 are open 24/7 with a changing table and sink. Other changing stations are near Gates 10, 13, 15 and 17.
Four of the nursing rooms are inside the women's restroom entrance.
Burning off energy
The Zoom Zone sits between Gates 24 and 25 in Terminal B.
At the gate
Gate-check rules for strollers are set by your airline, not by SJC. Check your carrier before you fly.
SJC publishes nothing about stroller rental. Its services directory lists Smarte Carte luggage carts for $6, curbside and in both baggage claims.
Not published by SJC; set by each airline.
Transfers
Free SJC shuttle buses (landside)
SJC has two terminals: Terminal A with Gates 1 to 16 and Terminal B with Gates 17 to 36. Free SJC shuttle buses run from the ground transportation areas of both terminals, linking them with the parking lots and the rental car centre, which sits across the street from Terminal B. Smarte Carte luggage carts are $6 at the curb and in both baggage claims.
Layover playbook
What to actually do, by how long you have.
Know your rights
Lactation rooms
As a medium hub, SJC falls under the FAM Act's lactation requirement. It goes well beyond it, with five private nursing rooms past security, each open 24/7 with a sink and changing table.
Changing tables
SJC publishes where every diaper changing station is: near Gates 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 21, 24 and 26, in the customs area, and pre-security in both terminals.
Milk and formula
TSA's national rule applies at SJC: formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed over 3.4 oz (100 ml) and do not need to fit in the quart bag. Declare them at the start of screening.
Boarding
Family boarding is set by your airline, not by SJC. Check your carrier before you fly.
If the facility is not there
Ask at an airport information booth in Terminal A or B baggage claim. For screening help, contact TSA Cares at 855-787-2227 at least 72 hours before you fly.

Yes: the Zoom Zone, in Terminal B between Gates 24 and 25. It was designed and built by the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose and covers about 600 sq ft, with objects and creatures that fly and activities that teach young children how air, wind and wings make flight possible. SJC says hours are subject to change. There is no play area listed in Terminal A, so families flying from Gates 1 to 16 should check whether they can reach Terminal B.
SJC has five private nursing rooms, all available 24/7. Four are in Terminal B, inside the entrance of the women's restrooms near Gates 18, 21, 24 and 26. The fifth is a separate room to the left of the restrooms near Gate 8 in Terminal A. Each one has a changing table, comfortable seating, power outlets and a sink, and all are wheelchair accessible. The Gate 24 room is right by the Zoom Zone.
SJC publishes a full list. Diaper changing stations are at restrooms near Gate 8 (in the nursing room), Gates 10 and 13 (all-gender restrooms), Gates 15, 17, 21, 24 and 26, and the customs processing centre. Before security, there are changing stations in the Terminal A ticketing lobby, Terminal A baggage claim and the Terminal B lobby. Every nursing room also has its own changing table.
SJC doesn't use the term family restroom. Instead it has all-gender restrooms, including near Gates 10 and 13 in Terminal A, with diaper changing stations and accessible stalls. These work well for a parent travelling with a child of a different gender. All restrooms at SJC have accessible stalls.
Not yet. A sensory room called the Nest, created with the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose and Nutanix, is planned between Terminals A and B across from Gate 17, but no opening date has been published and SJC's own services pages don't list it yet. For now, SJC offers Sunflower lanyards at check-in counters and information booths, and therapy dogs from its Happy Tails programme visit the terminals.
SJC doesn't list one. Both the Terminal A and Terminal B checkpoints have CLEAR and TSA PreCheck. For help at screening, including for a child with a disability or medical condition, contact TSA Cares at least 72 hours before you fly to arrange a Passenger Support Specialist. Children 12 and under keep their shoes on, and formula and breast milk are allowed over 3.4 oz.
SJC doesn't say. Stroller rental isn't in its services directory; the only rentals listed are Smarte Carte luggage carts for $6 at the curb and in both baggage claims. Bring your own stroller and gate-check it under your airline's rules.
SJC notes that TSA does not require children under 18 to show identification on domestic flights within the United States. Your airline may have its own rules, especially for lap infants and international trips, so check with your carrier.
TSA's national rules apply. Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed in your carry-on above the 3.4 oz (100 ml) limit and don't need to fit in the quart bag. Tell the officer at the start of screening and take them out of your bag. You can carry your child through the walk-through metal detector.
